The breakfast was a complete success with hundred providers in attendance. Our new Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Tosan Oruwariye led the charge under the guidance of Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Yvette Walker and President/CEO  Verona Greenland. All of the providers at MHHC came together and diligently brainstormed new exciting ways to maintain the best healthcare and continue the tradition of being the Caring Place. Our guest speaker was Babba Choudhury, a motivational and inspirational businessman, who gave a riveting presentation on the importance of sustained happiness and a great attitude in our workplace. Choudhury proposed that the happiness experienced and expressed by our employees will create a caring environment that will echo through our corridors and waiting rooms into the eyes of our patients resulting in a positive atmosphere for all. Dr. Oruwariye built upon these themes throughout the morning, adding a spirit of collegiality, cooperation, and a renewed call for personal dedication to MHHC’s 2014 strategy. All of the providers were honored and thanked throughout the morning for their dedication and service throughout 2013. Image may be NSFW.

Also in attendance was NY Congressman Jose Serrano. He congratulated all of the providers on a job well done and emphasized the importance of community health centers, stating that Morris Heights Health Center was integral to the well-being of his district. Congressman Serrano then spoke candidly about the importance of Obamacare (Affordable Care Act). Though he recognized some of the challenges the country had with the law’s implementation, he recounted that all of the critics in 2014 were merely parroting the same tired criticisms that were argued against the passage of Social Security in 1935 (FDR’s New Deal), and the passage of Medicaid/Medicare in 1965 (LBJ’s Great Society). He expounded that in time, these criticisms would subside into the footnotes of history as the country is propelled to progressive new heights and healthcare is guaranteed to all future generations. It has been a long arduous struggle for almost a century, but laws like Obamacare and the prevalence of organizations like Morris Heights Health Center continue the honorable and tenacious day to day struggle to ensure the country’s well-being and continued prosperity.
